A walk off single by Sam Talavera scored two runs as Waterford survived a wild 7th inning to defeat Westosha Central 5-4 in Waterford.
Jaydin Kiser earned the win pitching 2 innings in relief of Darby O'Dwyer. Meghan Lampos took the loss in a complete game effort. The Wolverines struck first in the 4th inning. Julia Runte led off with a double and Kiser was walked. Ella Greil hit a one-out triple to right scoring two runs. Waterford added another run in the 6th when Kiser reached on a single and was plated by Payton Snifka. O'Dwyer kept the Falcons frustrated with 5 solid innings in the circle. In that time she only allowed one run while striking out 3. But the Falcon offense erupted in the 7th. Allie Loucas led off with a single. One out later she scored on a single by Emma Smith. Mykenna Sturino followed with a single and Lila McNeill was hit by a pitch,, loading the bases. Maya Gagliardi reached on a fielder's choice and an error on the play scored Smith. Lampos hit a hard fly ball that was dropped allowing Sturino and McNeill to score. The Falcons took a short-lived lead into the final frame. O'Dwyer singled to start the inning. With two-outs and O'Dwyer at 2nd, Julia Runte reached on a fielder's choice. Kiser was intentionally walked, setting up Talavera's game ending hit.
"It was an exciting game the whole way," said Co-Head Coach Tom Lampe. "I like the way we rallied and came back in the 7th. It hurts that we couldn't quite finish it out but they are a good team and they responded."
With the loss the Falcons drop to 7-1 in the SLC and 9-2 overall. They return to action tomorrow when they host Badger in an SLC contest.
