There was only one run to be had at Diamond of Champions in Poynette today and Pacelli got that one in the third on a double followed by an rbi triple.

Morgan Gunderson started in the circle for the Pumas and allowed the one run, allowed five hits, two each by the leadoff batter and the third batter in Pacelli's order. She struck out eight and walked none. Kassidy McCaffery pitched the seventh for Poynette and recorded a 1-2-3 inning.

The Pumas struggled against Pacelli's pitcher Payton Mancl. They got runners aboard in five of the seven innings but couldn't get one to touch home plate safely. Karli Rivette walked in the second inning with one out and moved to second on a single by Maggie Steinhorst but two consecutive strikeouts, both looking ended that threat.

In the fourth Gunderson tried to help her own cause with a single but two more strikeouts left her standing at first. In the fifth, with two outs, leadoff batter Addison Mackey laced one off the top of the fence for a double but a ground out to second ended the inning. McCaffery led off the sixth inning with a single then Grace Gavinski moved her up a station with a sacrifice bunt but a fly ball to center and a swinging strikeout ended the inning.

TheMancil scattered four hits, struck out 10 and walked one.

The Pumas now 11-4 on the season and 3-2 in the Capitol North play at Lodi on Thursday. That game is at the high school and starts at 5 pm.
