In Lake Mills the Lakeside Lutheran Warriors outlasted the Waterloo Pirates 1-0 in a pitching duel.
Keightan Rank picked up the win on a three hitter with nine strikeouts and just one walk. The Pirates threatened in the sixth when Briana Huebner led off with a double but the Pirates failed to move her to third with less than two outs and she died at second.
Ally Schaumann pitched well but got tagged with the loss, allowing one run, striking out seven and walking none.
Lakeside Head Coach Matt Doering had the following comments after the game. "We had a great great with Waterloo. On the defensive side we were able to scatter hits and strand runners with a combination of solid pitching and defense."
Offensively, in the 3rd we had great execution to put a run up and they made it stand up. Emma Smulder hit an infield single. Kieghtan Rank singled. Abby Meis put down a beautiful sacrifice bunt and Keyanna Rank singled to score a run.
That's two solid wins in a row for the girls! I'm proud of the growth they are showing as the year goes on.
