MANAWA - Iola-Scandinavia split a conference doubleheader with Manawa. The Thunderbirds won the first game, 3-0, but lost the second game, 10-1. The T-Birds have a 8-1 conference record and are 9-4 overall. The Wolves are 5-3 in conference and 7-4 overall.
In the first game, Iola-Scandinavia scored one run each in the second, third and fifth innings. The Thunderbirds outhit Manawa 10-3. Brylee Jueds had three hits and drove in two runs. Brooklyn Berrens and Myah Heshke each had two hits including a double by Heschke.
Pitcher Julia Munoz went the distance to pick up the win. Munoz allowed two walks and had nine strikeouts.
In the second game, Manawa put the game away early scoring three runs in the first two innings and adding three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings and cruised to an easy victory. The Wolves outhit Iola-Scandinavia 13-5. Julia Munoz had two hits and drove in the only run for the Thunderbirds. Ava Printz had a double.
Pitcher Julia Munoz started the game, but only pitched one inning in taking the loss. Rayanne Clendenning pitched the final six innings. Clendenning allowed one walk and had two strikeouts.
