Blue Devils beat Lake Mills today 6-5

Lodi Wins Close Game over Lake Mills

In a tightly contested game between the two teams sitting atop the Capitol Conference North, Lodi travelled to Lake Mills and edged out the L-Cats 6-5.

Errors were the story of the loss for the L-Cats as early errors led to three runs for Lodi in the first two innings to go up 3-0.

Lake Mills had a big inning in the 3rd and tied the game up at 3-3 on a double by Ava Kleinfeldt and a triple by Taylor Wollin.

Lodi went up 4-3 on another L-Cat error in the 4th and scored two more in the 7th. Lake Mills threatened to tie the game late but fell one run short in the 7th inning rally.

Lake Mills outhit Lodi 10 hits to 9 in the contest. Lily Doerr led the L-Cats offense going 3-for-4 at the plate with Kleinfeldt and Wollin each adding two hits.

Kleinfeldt suffered just the second loss in her career. She gave up nine hits and struck out 10 while walking three. Baily Stark got the win for Lodi. She gave up 10-hits, struck out 9, and walked one.

“We played uncharacteristically tight and, along with that, committed three errors and a few other mental mistakes that we almost never make," said Lake Mills Coach Jim Clift. "That’s a lesson learned for us. Giving extra opportunities to good teams is difficult to overcome. Lodi is a good team and the top of their order are excellent hitters. We hit the ball well again and I was proud of how we fought to the last pitch.”

Lake Mills travels to East Sun Prairie HS this Thursday to face the Division 1 second ranked Cardinals at 5 PM.
