Iola-Scandinavia 2, Bonduel 1

IOLA - Iola-Scandinavia softball team beat Bonduel, 2-1, in a CWC-East match-up Monday.  With two outs and the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning and Brooklyn Berrens was on first base, Brylee Jueds hit a double off the left-field fence to score Berrens and give the Thunderbirds a 2-1 lead.  Bonduel managed to get a runner on first, but the T-Birds defense held for the win.  The T-Birds improved their record to 7-0 in conference and 8-3 overall.  The Bears dropped to 4-3 in conference and 9-4 overall.

Bonduel took the lead in the fourth inning.  Hailee Thompson scored from second on a single by Allison Zernicke to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.  Iola-Scandinavia responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the fourth inning to tie the game, 1-1.  After Julia Munoz singles and the Thunderbirds eventually load the bases, Maya Munoz hits a sacrifice fly to center-field to score Munoz from third.

Bonduel outhit Iola-Scandinavia 6-5.  Myah Heschke had two hits for the Thunderbirds including a double in the second inning.  For the Bears, Lila Pleshek had two hits while Hailee Thompson had a first inning double.

Pitcher Julia Munoz went the distance to earn the win.  Munoz allowed six hits, one walk while striking out 13 batters.  Bonduel pitcher Hailey Zernicke pitched six innings in taking the loss.  Zernicke allowed one walk and had two strikeouts.
