Germantown bounced back from recent losses with a 5-3 win over D2 #4 ranked Jefferson in game 1 of the 4-team tourney at Kenosha Bradford.

Kylie Otto pitched a complete game, working 7 innings and giving up 10 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.  Junior OF Emmy Coulter (3-4, 2 R, 2 SB) and junior SS Kayla Preiss (3-4, 2 RBI, R, SB) each had 3 hits to lead a 10-hit attack versus Jefferson junior pitcher Ashlyn Enke – a University of Northern Iowa verbal commit.

With the Warhawks already trailing 3-1 in top of 5, Maddy Balsiger threw out a runner at home for the last out of the inning to keep the deficit at 2.  Then in the bottom half of the inning, Preiss displayed great baserunning by scoring all the way from first on an errant throw from the Jefferson SS that trickled away from the 1B toward RF.  Kennedy Bennett (1-3, RBI) followed with a clutch 2-out game tying single.

Germantown’s go ahead 2-run rally in the bottom of the 6th started with 2 out and no one on base, with Balsiger (1-4, RBI) and Preiss delivering RBI singles.  And after Jefferson loaded the bases in the top of the 7th, Otto was able to get a fielder’s choice ground-out and fly out to center to end the game.

Germantown lost game 2 to D1 #4 ranked Kenosha Bradford 12-2.  The lose moves their record to 5-2 overall.

The Warhawks started strong by scoring 2 runs in the top of the first on a Balsiger (1-3, R) single, Preiss (1-3, 3B, RBI, R)  triple and Bennett (2-3, RBI) ground out.  But the Bradford offense was too much for the Germantown to overcome, as they were never able to put more than 2 base runners on in an inning against Bradford junior pitcher Brooklyn Danielson – a Eastern Illinois University verbal commit.

Coulter (2-3) also had a multi-hit game for the Warhawks, who host Brookfield East on Tuesday.
