Weyauwega-Fremont 0, at Iola-Scandinavia 1 in 9 innings
(IOLA) It took nine innings, but the Iola-Scandinavia softball team finally pushed a run across the plate to beat Weyauwega-Fremont 1-0 in a true pitchers' duel. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, freshman pinch-hitter Sophia Munoz drew a walk. Sophomore Maya Munoz singled to advance Sophia Munoz to third base. Senior Abby Isermann singled to right-field to drive in the winning run and give the Thunderbirds the victory.
Senior pitcher Julia Munoz pitched all nine innings to earn the shutout win for the T-Birds. Munoz allowed seven hits, no walks while striking out eight batters. Junior pitcher Olivia Witkowski went the distance for the Warhawks in taking the loss. The hard-throwing Witkowski allowed five hits, four walks while striking out 11 batters. Offensively, both teams had a few chances to score in the game, but excellent pitching and some key defensive plays kept the game scoreless.
For Iola-Scandinavia, Brooklyn Berrens and Abby Iserman each had two hits. For Weyauwega-Fremont, Riley Delwiche, Olivia Witkowski and Hailey Wohlt each had two hits. Witkowski had a double in the fourth inning. The Thunderbirds left six runners on base while the Warhawks left seven runners on base.
