Weyauwega-Fremont 0,  at Iola-Scandinavia 1 in 9 innings

(IOLA) It took nine innings, but the Iola-Scandinavia softball team finally pushed a run across the plate to beat Weyauwega-Fremont 1-0 in a true pitchers' duel.  With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, freshman pinch-hitter Sophia Munoz drew a walk.  Sophomore Maya Munoz singled to advance Sophia Munoz to third base.  Senior Abby Isermann singled to right-field to drive in the winning run and give the Thunderbirds the victory.

Senior pitcher Julia Munoz pitched all nine innings to earn the shutout win for the T-Birds.  Munoz allowed seven hits, no walks while striking out eight batters.  Junior pitcher Olivia Witkowski went the distance for the Warhawks in taking the loss.  The hard-throwing Witkowski allowed five hits, four walks while striking out 11 batters.  Offensively, both teams had a few chances to score in the game, but excellent pitching and some key defensive plays kept the game scoreless.

For Iola-Scandinavia, Brooklyn Berrens and Abby Iserman each had two hits.  For Weyauwega-Fremont, Riley Delwiche, Olivia Witkowski and Hailey Wohlt each had two hits.  Witkowski had a double in the fourth inning.  The Thunderbirds left six runners on base while the Warhawks left seven runners on base.
