IOLA - Iola-Scandinavia (4-2) split a non-conference doubleheader with St Mary Catholic (3-2) on Saturday, April 13. The Thunderbirds came from behind to edge the Zephyrs in the first game, 3-2. In the second game and trailing 2-1, SMC scored six runs in the fifth inning and three more runs in the sixth inning to easily beat Iola-Scandinavia.
In the first game, Myah Heschke and Brylee Jueds each had two hits for the T-Birds. Heschke had a double and drove in two runs. Maci Heschke also had a double in the game.
Pitcher Julia Munoz went the distance to earn the win. Munoz allowed seven hits, no walks while striking out seven batters.
In the second game, Abby Isermann had two hits and drove in a run for the Thunderbirds and Maci Heschke had a double. Sophomore pitcher Rayanne Clendenning made her first career varsity start for the Thunderbirds. Clendenning pitched five innings and did well for the first four innings.
