Germantown defeated Sussex Hamilton 12-6

The win moves their record to 2-0 in the Greater Metro Conference and 3-0 overall.

The Warhawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st.  Junior RF Emmy Coulter (2-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI) led off with a single, senior CF Maddy Balsiger (2-2, 2B, BB, 3 R, RBI, 2 SB) and junior catcher Madison Werner (4-4, 2 2B, HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, 4 SB) followed with RBI doubles.  Later in the inning sophomore 3B Addy Johnson executed a squeeze bunt to drive in another and junior Julia Sina (2-3, BB, R, RBI) followed with a clutch 2-out RBI single.

In the 2nd, Germantown added 2 runs, all after 2 outs with no runners on base.  Balsiger singled, stole second and was driven home by a Werner single.  Werner prompted stole second and third, then scored on a steal of home after Kayla Preiss walked and stole second.

Sussex cut the lead to 6-2 in the 3rd, but the Warhawks got those runs back and more in the 4th.  Balsiger walked and scored on a Werner double, then junior SS Kayla Preiss (1-2, HR, BB, HBP, R, 2 RBI, 3 SB) socked a 2-run homer to left to make the score 9-2.

Sussex scored 2 more runs in each of the 4th and 5th innings, but a Werner solo homer to center in the 6th and a 2-out, 2-run double by Coulter in the 7th gave Germantown some insurance.

Kylie Otto battled through 5 1/3 innings in the circle to earn her second win of the year, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.  Kendal Thomas closed the game out to get the save, pitching 1 2/3 innings without allowing a runner.

The Warhawks return to action on Tuesday, April 16 in a GMC clash with Brookfield Central.
