This article includes two Bonus statistical questions

For the past decade The Fastpitch Chronicle has offered coaches a chance to present several awards that create a lot of interest. We've done hundreds of Award Certificates free of charge to coaches who read the news and information on this website.

All a coach has to do is submit the information including things like
Players name (spelled correctly), date of game, opponent, score of game, etc.

We have awarded certificates for:
No hitters (5 innings, 6 innings and 7 or more)
Perfect games (5 innings, 6 innings and 7 or more)
Tying or breaking one of the unofficial state records posted on the site
First Ever Varsity Home Run
First Ever Grand Slam Home Run
Multiple Home Runs in same game
Team Members involved in a Triple Play
Awards Coaches have asked us to do

Beginning in 2024 we will not longer recognize no hitters and perfect games that are less than 7 innings and will not do certificates for anything less than a 7-inning feat.

The awards are done in School Colors and are produced and sent to coaches in pdf form. The coach gets the pdf and must provide the paper to print it out on.

They are Fastpitch Chronicle Award Certificates and not associated with an softball organizations, sanctioning bodies or state associations.

Here is a bonus rules situation for you.

How many innings must a starting pitcher complete in order to be credited with the win? (Answer below)

With Runners on first and third the runner at first breaks for second base. The catcher does not attempt a play on either runner. In a game being played under National Federation of State Athletic Associations, how does the runner now at second get credited for getting there. Is is a stolen base or is it Catcher Indifference? (Answer Below)

Answer to situation #1. The starting pitcher must pitch at least half of the innings played in the game so at least 3 2/3 in a seven inning game. NFHS Rule 9 Article 6a.

Answer to situation #2.
The runner now at second should be credited with a stolen base. Here is the wording covering that in the NFHS Rule Book.

Rule 9 Player's Baserunning Record
A stolen base shall be credited in the summary to a runner each time the runner advances a base without the aid of a base hi9t, a putout or a fielding error (including battery) error.
Exceptions:
1. No runner is credited with a stolen base if after reaching the base, the runner overslides and is put out.
2. No runner is credited with a stolen base if in an attempted double or triple steal, any runner is out out; or
3. No runner is credited with a stolen base if opponents are in collusion, such as a deliberate attempt to help establish a record.

There is no provision for catcher indifference in a NFHS sanctioned softball game.

Have a great day.
