Madison Softball is excited to announce that Raquel Savoy has been named the first Head Coach in team history.

Savoy has over a decade of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Most recently, Savoy served as a Volunteer Assistant coach at the University of California-Berkeley in 2019. Prior to arriving at Cal Berkeley in 2019, Savoy was a Volunteer Assistant coach at Santa Clara University for one season, and coached at Chabot College from 2013 to 2017, where she previously spent two years as a player. Savoy has also made stops in her coaching career at Dominican University, College of Marin and Tennyson High School.

In addition to coaching, Savoy also owns and operates Apex Performance in Concord, California, an indoor facility which offers private softball training and aims to train the foundations of movement to function better through sport and life.

“My goal as the Head Coach of Madison Softball is to bring in a group of athletes that are fiery and fun to watch, but most of all that really want to grow the game. The Northwoods League is doing something really awesome. I think that any time we can grow the game for fans and for kids, I think it’s phenomenal. I’m really looking forward to being a part of that and being a part of the Madison community this summer,” Savoy said.

In her new role with Madison Softball, Savoy will begin recruiting the team and plans to hire assistant coaches to complete her staff.

“I think Raquel brings a lot of knowledge and passion to the game. She also has a lot of connections in the softball world, where I think she will be able to recruit girls from all over the country. I’m excited to see what she does with the Madison Softball program,” said Madison Softball Marketing and Operations Manager, Savanna Rainey.

“It is so exciting to welcome Coach Raquel Savoy on board! She possesses leadership, experience, and great softball knowledge. Bring on women’s collegiate softball to Madison! It’s going to be the best summer ever,” said Madison Softball Owner, Steve Schmitt.

“Raquel is the perfect addition to Madison Softball in year one. Her knowledge of the game as well as her passion for growing the sport is unparalleled. In our conversations, she has shown a tremendous desire to ingrain herself within the Madison community and connect with the surrounding youth softball leagues to help grow the game,” Madison Softball General Manager, Samantha Rubin said.

Starting Wednesday, February 28th, Madison Softball fans will be able to vote on the first round of the official “Name the Team” bracket. Starting with 16 teams, fans will vote on team names in head-to-head matchups with each round lasting one week to gather feedback. The team will hold three rounds of voting and will choose the team name from the fan-voted final four. The winning team name will be announced at an event in April.

The Madison Softball team will host the La Crosse Steam for its home opener on Sunday, June 16th at 6:05pm. The complete 2024 schedule can be found here. Group outings, season ticket packages, and eight ticket flex plans are now available by calling the Madison Softball office at 608-246-4277. Fans can reserve their season tickets now for only $50.
