Marshall knocked the defending Division 3 champions out of the WIAA with a stunning 3-2 win today in Poynette.

Marshall scored first with a run in the top of the 4th inning on a one-out single by Luzenski and an error in left field that allowed her to reach second base. With two outs an error at first moved the runner to third and when the ball got away from the first sacker the runner sprinted home. In the top of the fifth the Cardinals got another run When Quam doubled to lead off the inning. A strikeout and popped up bunt back to the pitcher followed. Then Sydney Stuntebeck batting in the cleanup spot singled to score Quam and Marshall led 2-0.

In the Marshall sixth a crazy turn of events took place. T he #7 batter, Mender singled to open the inning. Then the number 8 batter singled on a bunt. Then the #9 batter singled but the lead runner was out at the plate. The Pumas then intentionally walked Quam to load the bases. Kaitlyn Jesberger then hit a pop up a bit down the third base line but it fell to the ground fair. The Pumas got to the ball and tossed it to the catcher who was standing atop home plate. It appeared that the home plate umpire called the runner from third out but then a long break took place to sort things out. Apparently the umpires ruled that the pop up was an infield fly so they called the batter out and the runner from third safe, ruling that the catcher had not tagged her. That made it 3-0.

Brooke Steinhorst led off the bottom of the sixth with a towering blast that was caught by a fan in dead center field but beyond the fence. Steinhorst's blast made it 3-1 and breathed a bit of hope back into the Pumas.

In the seventh Marshall failed to score and headed to the bottom of the inning ahead 3-1. After a ground out to second Emma Gavinski hit a flair into left field and Zane Hushagen was inserted as a courtesy runner and advanced to second. She later scored on an rbi single by Maggie Steinhorst but a pop behind the plate ended the game and Poynete's season, sending Marshall on to the sectional semi-final where they will face #1 seed Brodhead in Brodhead on Tuesday.

Marshall collected three straight hits. With the bases loaded the batter hit a pop up a bit down the third base line where nobody got to the ball. It bounced was picked up and
