Saint Joseph, MN - This weekend's UMAC Softball Tournament came to a close Sunday afternoon in what has been quite the roller coaster. The tournament started in Mankato on Thursday before rain forced the remainder of the tournament to relocate to Saint Joseph, MN to the College of Saint Benedict.

UW-Superior entered the day needing two wins over Bethany Lutheran to capture the UMAC tournament title. Pitching ruled the day and was phenomonel on both sides but the Yellowjackets were just a tiny bit better than the Vikings in the circle, UW-Superior was able to win both games today by scores of 3-0 and 1-0.

Game one had the majority of its runs come right away in the first inning. Zoe Thomson hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Yellowjackets the only runs they would need in game one. They would tack on another run in the third on a Jenna Hoops sacrifice fly to put the Yellowjackets up 3-0. The story of the day was UMAC Tournament MVP Tayler Kraemer, who in game one threw a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits in game one to force a winner take all game with the Vikings.

Game two was a lot of the same, except even less scoring with just one run scored and five hits between the two teams. The game was scoreless through six and a half innings before the Yellowjackets walked it off on an error that allowed Camille Wikstrom to come in and score and win the UMAC Tournament title.

Once again, for the second time in as many games , Kraemer pitched another complete game shutout, this time giving up just two hits to clinch the tournament title for the Yellowjackets, overall, she pitched fourteen innings of scoreless softball in the biggest games of the year.

UW-Superior will move on to represent the UMAC in the NCAA Tournament which begins next week.
