Grantsburg cruises to a pair of wins today

Whitney Meyers shut down Unity, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Grantsburg Pirates to a 11-0 victory on Tuesday.

In the first inning, Grantsburg Pirates got their offense started when Meyers singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Grantsburg Pirates put up four runs in the third inning.  Grantsburg Pirates' offense in the inning came from a walk by Piper Olson, a single by Ruby Rengo, and a groundout by Meyers.

One bright spot for Unity was a single by L Nadeau in the second inning.

Meyers toed the rubber for Grantsburg Pirates. Meyers allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one.

M Wilhelm started the game for Unity. Wilhelm allowed seven hits and 11 runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one.  E Crowe threw one and one-third innings in relief.

Meyers, Rengo, Carley Gross, Renee Tooze, Megan Schafer, Olson, and Kaylie Moore each collected one hit to lead Grantsburg Pirates.  Grantsburg Pirates was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Olson had the most chances in the field with nine.

In game two Piper Olson threw a shutout to lead Grantsburg Pirates past Unity 13-0 on Tuesday. Olson led Grantsburg Pirates to victory by driving in six runs.  Olson went 2-for-3 at the plate.  Olson drove in runs on a sacrifice fly in the first, a single in the second, and a home run in the third.

Grantsburg Pirates fired up the offense in the first inning, when Ruby Rengo singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Grantsburg Pirates scored five runs in the third inning.  The rally was led by a single by Maddy Schafer, a home run by Olson, and a fielder's choice by Kaylie Moore.

A single by L Nadeau in the fifth inning was a positive for Unity.

Olson was in the pitcher's circle for Grantsburg Pirates. The hurler allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking zero.

E Crowe led things off on the rubber for Unity. The bulldog lasted one-third of an inning, allowing two hits and three runs.  P Zipperer threw four and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

Grantsburg Pirates hit one home run on the day. Olson had a four bagger in the third inning.

Grantsburg Pirates totaled 16 hits.  Megan Schafer, Ashlynn Lener, Olson, Mya Benson, Whitney Meyers, and Schafer all managed multiple hits for Grantsburg Pirates.  Schafer went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Grantsburg Pirates in hits.  Grantsburg Pirates didn't commit a single error in the field. Vanessa Wickstrom had  seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
