It is the school's 29th conference title and the second one in a row

Poynette swept two games from Lodi today at Diamond of Champions in Poynette. The first game was a makeup from a rainout earlier in the season so Lodi was the home team.

Poynette got off to a great start as Addison Mackey walked and Brooke Steinhorst doubled sending Mackey on third. She scored on a wild pitch and Steinhorst moved to third. The next two batters went down and the rally ended after Steinhorst scored on a single by Morgan Gunderson.

Lodi threatend with nobody out and runners on two and three in the bottom of the fifth but a heady play on the part of Poynette pitcher Holly Lowenberg cut down the runner at third trying to score on a safety squeeze.

Poynette added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Kassidy McCaffery hit a solo shot to make it 3-0 and that's the way it ended as Lowenberg closed the door in the seventh with two Ks and a ground out to short.

The win clinched sole possession of the conference title.

In game two Steinhorst pitched for Poynette. She kept her unbeaten string alive in the circle with an 11-5 win.

Poynette scored four in the first and appeared to be off to the races but Lodi had other thoughts and scored four of their own in the top of the second. All four were unearned due to an error at shortstop.

Poynette plated two more in the bottom of the third on rbi singles by Mackey and Steinhorst. They saw Lodi get one back but in the bottom of the fifth three more runs crossed on an rbi double by Steinhorst and a two-run single by Lowenberg. The bottom the sixth saw the winners scorethree more as the 7-8 and 9 batters all reached including a 2-run triple by Alli Ripp and an rbi single by Mackey.

The Pumas are scheduled to host Lake Mills on Friday, weather permitting.
