Poynette handles Wilmot Union 10-0

Six Wilmot errors led to a five-inning game

The Poynette Pumas beat Wilmot Union on Saturday in Poynette in the first game of a four-team, two-game day.

In the top of the second the Pumas took a 1-0 lead on an error at third base off the bat of Kassidy McCaffery and Laken Wagner's bat stayed hot with a single. Emma Gavinski rolled a ball toward shortstop but the Wilmot shortstop missed it and McCaffery scored.

In the Poynette third Brooke Steinhorst doubled to lead off the inning then Holly Lowenberg singled. After the next two Pumas' batters went down Gavinski hit another roller toward the shortstop and that one also got between her legs and under her glove . Before the inning was over the shortstop missed another roller, that one off the bat of the other Gavinski, Grace.

In the Poynette fourth Grace Gavinski opened the inning with a grounder that got under the second sacker's glove and Addison Mackey followed with a single to left. After a flyout Lowenberg drew a free pass and after a strikeout Wagner laced a gap shot to rightcenter clearing the bases then scored when the second sacker missed another roller. 

In the fifth the Pumas put the game away on the 10-0 run mercy rule when Emma Gavinski hit a high towering shot to the base of the fence in front of the new Bank First scoreboard at Diamond of Champions. Twin sister Grace then singled and when Brooke Steinhorst later doubled for the second time the twins touched home plate. When Lowenberg launched a ball over the fence that made it 1-0.

Lowenberg pitched the first four innings and got the the win. She allowed two hits and struck out eight. McCaffery then pitched the fifth inning allowing no runs on one hit and struck out two.

The Pumas then took on Galesville/Ettrick/Trempealeau in the second game.
