New London Hosted its first ever of any kind of Tournament in its history Saturday April 29th Welcoming Mosinee, Waupun and Whitnall to Memorial Park. All 4 of these programs have represented the Division 2 State Tournament field in the last decade at least once producing 3 Champions and 3 Runner Ups and Multiple Final Four appearances. A ¼ inch of rain in the early morning hours along with temps in the lower to mid 40’s did not stop the teams from making the trip. Although due to Temps and keeping the fields playable as much as possible all games were reduced to 5 innings. Mosinee Freshman Taelyn Jirschele led the Indians with 2 Hits and Junior’s Amber Gonzalez and Addi Strejc had 2 RBI’s each. Freshman Pitcher Ava Busse earned the win Allowing 2 Runs Both Earned, Striking out 6 and Walking 2. For the Bulldogs Jensen Mix led with 2 hits while Shelby Glodowski and Kenna Mix each batted in a run, Savannah Schaff took the loss allowing 8 Hits 5 Runs only 1 was earned striking out 1 and Walking 2.
The Warriors scored 5 runs in the 4th to take the lead for good against the Falcons, Both teams took advantage of playing on a field with a deep outfield combining for 22 Hits. Rozlynn Rivera, Ava Vande Zande and Lexi Lehman each had 2 Hits for Waupun while Oliva Lese and Kailie Westphal each had 3 RBI’s. Rivera earned the Win Scattering 11 Hits, 10 Runs 5 Earned, Striking out 4 and Walking 3. Whitnall was offensively led by Maya Dzick and Sophia Bragg with 2 hits each, Bragg, Samantha Davis and Ava Bushberger each had 2 RBI’s. Sophomore Sarah Byrsta Took the loss allowing 11 Hits, 12 Runs, 8 Earned Striking out 2 and Walking 5.
Kenna Mix Pitched a 5 Inning Shutout Striking out 8 and Walking 1 allowing 2 Hits. The Bulldogs had 7 Hits with Eve Hedtke leading the way with 2 as well was scoring 2 runs. Kenna Mix had the lone extra base hit with a double. Savannah Schaff led with 2 RBI’s. Maya Dzick and Natalhia Oleniczak each had a hit for the Falcons while Sarah Byrsta took the loss allowing 7 Hits 4 Runs 1 earned.
Mosinee held off a Waupun Comeback which led the tying run at 2nd in the Bottom of the 5th Inning to secure the win. Taelyn Jirschele led the way with 3 Hits and 3 RBI’s. Amber Gonzalez, Maggie Woller and Briley Kaczor had 2 hits each and Martina Miller had a triple with 3 RBI’s for the Indians. Addi Strejc earned the win pitching 4 innings allowing 9 hits, 8 Runs 7 Earned, Striking out 3 and Walking 5, Ava Busse came in to get the final 3 outs in the 5th inning striking out 2 and allowing 1 hit. Lexie Gerritson led the Warriors with a Double and a Triple and 2 RBI’s, Alexandra Gaffney also had 2 hits for the Warriors. Lexi Lehman reached base by balls 3 times. Aubrey Farley took the loss allowing 10 Runs, 9 Earned, and 12 Hits striking out none and walking 1.
Waupun Freshman Ace Addison Braun Allowed 2 Hits and Struck out 7 to earn the Win against New London in the Final game of the day. Carley White had 2 Hits for the Warriors and Lexi Lehman had 2 hits and batted in 2 Runs. Kenna Mix Took the loss for New London allowing 3 Runs and Walking 3 and Striking out 7. Kenna Mix and Shelby Glodowski had the 2 hits for New London
Mosinee hammered out 19 hits and scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning and 8 in the 5th to go 3-0 on the day. Taelyn Jirschele, Amber Gonzalez, Alanna Bembenek and Ava Busse each had multiple hits for Mosinee. While Bembenek and Busse drove in 4. Busse earned the win Giving up 2 Runs on 4 hits and Striking out 2. For Whitnall Samantha Davis had a hit, scored a run and batted a run in. Sarah Bystra and Nataliha Oleniczak split the pitching duties in the loss.
