back-to-back double, triple and home run account for 3 runs in first

Freshman Addision Mackey garnered two hits on the cold, blustery day

Freshman second sacker Addison Mackey got things rolling in Spring Green today when Poynette invaded southwestern Sauk County. The young Puma laced a double to lead off the inning but when sophomore Morgan Gunderson hit a liner to centerfield, Mackey got doubled off and a first-inning outburst seemed doomed.

However, enter senior shortstop Brooke Steinhorst who responded with a double. That two-bagger was followed by a triple by senior pitcher Holly Lowenberg. With Lowenberg at two sophomore utility player Kassidy McCaffery unloaded on a Hahn offering and sent the ball over the fence in rightcenter field.

That would be all the Pumas would get but with Lowenberg, the 2022 WFSCA Division 3 Pitcher/Player of the Year in the circle the Blackhawks failed to get a runner aboard through four innings. In the fifth they scored their only run when. Lowenberg surrendered four hits and struck out 14.

Mackey, the freshman led all batters with two hits. in a 2x4 day. The Pumas collected six hits off Katie Hahn (5) and Miranda Feiner (1). River Valley was led by Kylie Merritt who had two hits. Kylie Robbins doubled for the Blackhawks.

Poynette hosts Iola-Scandinavia on Monday and tentatively will host SPASH on Thursday.
