Grantsburg, Defending WIAA Division 4 State Champions go 3-0 in Florida

Pirates Traveled to Clearwater, Florida

Game 1 saw two northern Wisconsin teams square off in Clearwater Florida.  With temps in the mid 70’s and blue skies this was a change of weather and scenery for both teams. 

Antigo would strike first with one run in the first inning, then in the bottom of the second inning Grantsburg would put up 9 runs. The score would stay 9-1 until the 4th inning when Antigo added 2 more runs or to be answered by Grantsburg in the bottom half of the 5th inning with 2 more runs and one in the 6th making it 12-3 Grantsburg going into the top of the 7 inning, then Antigo scored 3 more for a final of 12-6.

Final ended with Grantsburg having 12 runs on 9 hits and 5 errors, Antigo had 6 runs on 8 hits and 2 errors

Whitney Myers and Piper Olson combined for 7 innings, 8 hits,  4 earned runs in the game… 

Game 2 Saw Grantsburg face off against Cushing Academy from Massachusetts, this was more of a pitching and defensive competition. Grantsburg fell behind in the 2nd inning 1-0 only to battle back and score 2 in the bottom of the 6th and hang on for a 2-1 win

Once again Olson and Myers combined for 7 innings, surrendering 3 hits for 1 run in the win. 

Game 3 saw Grantsburg in another hard fought defensive competition with Trinity Prep. Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom the 5th inning when Trinity Prep pushed the first run across the plate. Then Grantsburg answered with 2 in the top of the 6th inning to take a 2-1 lead. Trinity Prep battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th inning 2-2, then in the top of the 7th inning the Pirates scored one to win 3-2 Myers tossed a complete game for the Pirates.
