The title is the third in the past four seasons, sixth overall

New Holstein put an early scare into Poynette fans in the second inning when Poynette outfielders misplayed two towering fly balls.

Kylee Pierquet hit the first high, towering flyball to dead center and it was misplayed, following off the end of the centerfielder's glove. Poynette pitcher Holly Lowenberg retired the next two batters but with two out, Hayli Kohlman hit a high one to left that was misjudged by the outfielder and fell in for what was ruled a double, scoring Pierquet.

In the Poynette third the Pumas bats warmed up when first sacker Laken Wagner singled through the right side. Cedi Lapacek was subbed in for Wagner. Ali Ripp bunted just to the left of home plate but fair and was thrown out by the catcher but Lapacek was in scoring position at second. Senior second sacker Ashia Meister who has been on fire throughout the tournament series, followed with an rbi single to right and moved up to third when the ball was misplayed in rightfield. Lapacek scored. Freshman outfielder Morgan Gunderson followed with a single of her own that chased Meister across the plate. When Brooke Steinhorst reached on an error  Gunderson scooted into second and also got third. Holly Lowenberg followed with a liner to rightcenter for a two-run double. The score was then 4-1.

New Holstein got one back in the fourth inning on a single by Kylee Pierquet singled and when Alyssa Schneider doubled Pierquet scampered home. It was then 4-2.

The Pumas got a fifth run in the fourth and New Holstein got one in the sixth and threatened in the seventh with two outs but Lowenberg struck out the New Holstein pitcher to end the game and secure the state title.

Poynette collected six hits off starting pitcher Jenna Karls and got two more off Natalie Ziebell. The leading hitters for the Pumas were senior second sacker Ashia Meister who was 2x3 and freshman utility player Morgan Gunderson was also 2x3. Lowenberg doubled to help her own cause while Abby Klink and Wagner each had base hit.

New Holstein collected five hits off Lowenberg including two doubles, one by Schneider and Kohlman while Pierquet led the way with two hits in three appearances. The other hit was by Jordan Meyer.

Poynette stranded 10 base runners in the game while New Holstein left just two onboard. New Holstein had four errors while Poynette had 2.

Poynette finished the season at 21-5 while New Holstein wound up with a record of 2-6.
