Two in the first and one in the second was just enough for the Pirates

In the Grantsburg second Cate Lee reached first base on an error at third. She was retired at second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Ashlynn Lener. Carley Gross singled and advanced to second on the throw and Lener moved to third. Sadye Bunting followed with a twol-run single single to rightfield.

Grantsburg added the eventual winning run in the third when Whi9tney Myers hit a home run to left center.

Horicon didn't die however. They picked up their second run in the fifth when Paige Beck reached on an error when pitcher Myers misplayed a bunt and Boeck quickly stole second base. Emma Miller singled to left but outfielder Sadye Bunting cut  Boeck down at the third. Angelica Bushkie kept things alive by hitting a ball to Renee Tooze at shortstop that allowed Miller to score. Myers closed the door the rest of the way aided by a throwout of Ella Vorlob by catcher Vanessa Wickstrom.

Myers was the winner scattering six hits, striking out just two and walking one. The loser was Lizzie Gibbs who surrended three runs, one earned on seven hits, struck out 1 and walked none.

The state tournament was the 8th trip for Grantsburg under Don Bjelland. The title is the third in those eight trips. They have also finished runnerup once in 2016.

For Horicon the trip to Goodman marked the 8th trip to the Final Four, all under the helm of Roger Schliewe. They won titles in 2002, 2003, 2018 and 2019. They have been runnerup one other time (2001).

Grantsburg finished the season with a record of 23-6 while Horicon wound up 22-8.
