Kaukauna downs FVA foe Oshkosh West 7-1

Scored five runs in first three innings

The defending Galloping Ghosts opened defense of their title with the win over Oshkosh west. They scored one in the first, three in the second and one in the third to take what appeared to be a commanding lead over the Wildcats. 

They added the fourth and fifth runs in the sixth. They tallied 13 hits off Wildcat pitcher Brianna Bougie. 

The run in the first was the result of leadoff bunt single by junior Kally Meredith who quickly swiped second base. With two outs Paige Miller reached on an error at first sending Kally Meredith to third then scored on the throw.

The Kaukauna second started out with a popup to second. Senior Keanna Jansen doubled to deep center and Lilly Roehrig singled chasing Jansen home. Kally Meredith followed with another bunt single before Roehrig was forced out at third. When Karly Meredith singled two scored.

Two of the game's highlights were two pickoff plays at second base by Kaukauna catcher Anna LaCount. The leading hitters for the Ghosts were Kally Meredith, Karly Meredith, Taryn Christopher, Jansen and Roehrig all with two hits each. The Ghosts had 13 hits. West garnered four hits off Skyler Calmes and Karly Meredith.
