Iola-Scandinavia ends Bonduel's unbeaten season -- wins in 9 innings

Will play Random Lake, another upset winner over Mishicot 5-2

Iola-Scandinavia (18-6) upset previously undefeated Bonduel (20-1), 4-3, in nine innings in a WIAA sectional semi-final game.  The Thunderbirds will play Random Lake in a WIAA sectional championship game on Thursday at Crandon starting at 5pm.

Bonduel scored a run in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.  The T-Birds scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead before Bonduel scored another run in the fifth inning to knot the score at 3-3.  In the ninth inning, Iola-Scandinavia took the lead when Marin Hoyord singled and eventually scored from second on a single by Chloe Timdal just inside the left field foul line.  The Thunderbirds held Bonduel in the bottom of the ninth to claim the victory.

The T-Birds outhit the Bears 14-8.  Marin Hoyord, Makayla Much, and Jaelyn Sivertson each had three hits.  Maddie Much had two hits.  Alexa Christoph, Myah Heschke and Chloe Timdal each had run scoring singles.  The Thunderbirds left 13 runners on base.  Nakiyah Henning, Lila Pleshek and Hailey Zernicke each had two hits for Bonduel.  Zernicke drove in all three runs for the Bears.

Pitcher Maddie Much pitched all nine innings to earn the win for Iola-Scandinavia.  Much allowed eight hits, two walks and struck out five batters.  Pitcher Nakiyah Henning entered the game in the fifth inning and ended up taking the loss.  Pitcher Claire Gehm started and worked the first four innings.
