Lake Mills squared off against Luther Prep in a Capitol North Conference matchup on Tuesday, winning the contest 7-1.

It was Avery Chilson’s time to shine in the circle once again. She allowed one run on two hits and stuck out ten while walking two. A big 3rd inning for the L-Cats secured the win. They scored four runs enroute to the victory. Singles by Ava Kleinfeldt and Haydenn Sellnow and a double by Tessa Kottwitz led the way in the charge. Lake Mills committed no errors in the contest. Mady Eckl earned the loss giving up seven runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking five.

Thursday was the second conference matchup between Lake Mills and Lodi. The final score was 7-0.  Lake Mills’ junior pitcher Avery Chilson threw her fifth shutout of the year to keep the L-Cats in first place. Chilson helped her own cause by hitting a solo homerun in the 1st inning. The L-Cats blasted two more home runs when sophomore Ava Kleinfeldt hit her first homerun of the year in the 4th inning and junior slugger Belle Topel hit another home run in the 5th inning. Sophomore Taylor Wollin lead all hitters on the day going 3x4 at the plate. The L-Cat defense was solid all night committing no errors. Emma Krumpen lead the Blue Devils going 2x3. Chilson was the winning pitcher allowing zero runs on five hits and no walks. Vivian Beld was the losing pitcher giving up seven runs on ten hits and walking three. “These were definitely quality wins against two improved teams in our conference. Our story these last few games has been hitting the ball very hard right at defenders. Our players are aware that is just part of the game, but I have to admit it’s tough to watch our girls hit bullets off the bat, yet right at an opposing player. We are swinging the bats well right now and we know those hard hit balls will eventually fall. I continue to be very pleased with our pitching and defense which have both been solid all year,” said L-Cat coach Jim Clift.

The two wins move the L-Cats to 14-1 on the season. Lake Mills will host Johnson Creek in a double header this Saturday at Rotary Park with the first game starting at 10 AM
