Lake Mills goes 2-1 late last week

Lost to Columbus 8-5 and swept Martin Luther

Lake Mills upset late by Columbus; follows up with double header sweep over Martin Luther

Columbus trailed Lake Mills for most of the 7 innings, but stayed close enough to come up big when it counted most and pulled out an 8-5 victory over the visiting L-Cats.

With a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the 5th, Alise Hayes blooped a single over the 1st base side which scored 2 runs. The Cardinals added the final run of the game on a single to left by Dakota Volesky. Volesky led all hitters going 4x4 on the night while  Emmajo Peck and Lily Walker each added two hits. Tessa Kottwitz, Taylor Wollin, and Payton Quest led the L-Cats with 2 hits each. Peck was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals giving up 5 runs on 10 hits and striking out four. Avery Chilson took the loss. She gave up 11 hits and 8 runs while striking out three and walking one.

The next day, the L-Cats swept a twin bill against Martin Luther HS of Greendale, WI. Avery Chilson returned to stellar form in the 5-inning shutout. She struck out nine and walked just one giving up just 2 hits in the 11-0 win. Kari Blaziel was the losing pitcher for the Spartans while Ginger Mejia came in relief. The L-Cats hit three homeruns in the game; one each by Tessa Kottwitz, Taylor Wollin, and sophomore Kate Gero. Lake Mills had ten hits; Kottwitz, Wollin, and her twin sister Emily Wollin each getting 2 hits.

Ava Kleinfeldt followed up in Game 2 with her own shutout victory throwing all 5 innings in shortened game. The Cats won the second game 13-0. The right-handed hard baller allowed just 2-hits and struck out 11 with no walks. Tessa Kottwitz again led the way with two hits as well as Kleinfeldt with two. Each also hit doubles in the contest. Blaziel was also the losing pitcher for the contest allowing 11 hits and 13 runs and striking out two. Lake Mills moved to an overall record of 12-1 after the week.
