McKenna Grossman Hits Walk-Off Double to Capture the Win

It took a walk-off double by McKenna Grossman in the bottom of the 7th inning for Lake Mills to stay undefeated on the season and atop the Capitol Conference North.

Lake Mills led for most of the game in spite of a slow night at the plate. Lakeside took an early lead in the top of the 1st  when Kendall Lemke singled to drive in Abby Meis to make the score 1-0.

A 2-run homer by Haydenn Sellnow in the bottom of the 1st put Lake Mills up 2-1. The L-Cats added a run in the 3rd when Sellnow came up big again with a single that drove in senior speedster Tessa Kottwitz.

Lakeside showed a tremendous amount of tenacity and tied the game up in the top of the 7th when Jenna Shadoski hit a double to score Reyna Rupnow. Abby Meis then drove in Jenna Shadoski on an error which tied the game up. Center fielder Tessa Kottwitz made a spectacular play throwing out Shadoski trying to advance to 3rd.

In the bottom of the 7th, freshman Savannah Radke walked followed by a Lakeside overthrow to batter Ava Kleinfeldt, putting Radke and Kleinfeldt on 2nd and 3rd. Lakeside brought in pitcher Kieghton Rank to face senior slugger McKenna Grossman. Grossman hit a first pitch double deep into left field ending the game 4-3.

Avery Chilson notched the win for Lake Mills giving up 8-hits, striking out 8, and walking 3. Grace Cook got the loss for the Warriors giving up 5-hits striking out 6 and walking 3.

Lake Mills moves to 10-0 on the year and Lakeside moves to 7-2. "We got a gutty win against a very good team. I give a ton of credit to Lakeside and they are always a tough outing. They swing the bats great and play solid defense. It was a close win against a conference opponent so we're happy about that. But as a young team, there are always areas where we need to build and continue to improve and we know we always have to earn our success each day," said coach Jim Clift.

Lake Mills travels to Columbus Thursday for the second conference matchup with the Cardinals.
