Iola-Scandinavia ekes out 8-7 win over Athens

Alexa Christoph drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning to score Jaelyn Sivertson the winning run to give Iola-Scandinavia a come from behind non-conference victory of Athens 8-7.  The Thunderbirds entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 7-6. Makayla Much singled to start the rally.  Much scored to tie the game when Jaelyn Sivertson singled and eventually scored on a fielding error.  The T-Birds proceeded to load the bases which allowed Sivertson to score on the bases loaded walk.

The win improves Iola-Scandinavia's record to 16-7 and the loss drops Athens to 13-8.

Athens took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.  Grace Johnson doubled and scored on a double by Shauna Belter.  Siarra Hart followed with a two-run homerun.

Iola-Scandinavia scored two runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead.  Jaelyn Sivertson drove in three of the six runs on a pair of singles in the two innings.

Athens tied the game in the sixth inning with the help of two bases loaded walks.  The Bluejays took the lead in the top of the seventh inning, 7-6.

Thunderbird pitcher Maddie Much worked the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the win.  Much allowed four walks and had two strikeouts.  Julia Munoz started the game for the T-Birds and pitched 5 1/3 innings.  Munoz allowed two walks and struck out eight batters.

Siarra Hart pitched the first five innings for the Bluejays.  Hart allowed seven walks and had three strikeouts.  Celina Ellenbecker worked the final two innings.  Ellenbecker had two walks and no strikeouts.
