Iola-Scandinavia sinks Wautoma 16-7

Ten-run third inning does in the Hornets

Iola-Scandinavia (15-7) beat Wautoma (18-4) in a non-conference game at Iola-Scandinavia.  Trailing 3-2, the Thunderbirds used a 10 run third inning to break open the game.  The Hornets had three errors in the third inning to help the T-Birds.

The Thunderbirds pounded out 19 hits while the Hornets had 15 hits.

For the T-Birds, Alexa Chirstoph had five hits including a run-scoring double in the 10 run third inning.  Jaelyn Sivertson drove in two runs on four hits including a triple in the first inning.  Marin Hoyord and Lizzie Jones each had three hits including a double for each of them.  Jones also drove in two runs on her three hits.  Katie Cherek and Taylor Kielblock each had two hits and drove in two runs.  Cherek also had a double.

For the Hornets, Bri Handel had four hits including a two-run homerun in the fourth inning.  Handel drove in three runs for the game.  Ava Stahl had three hits while Sydney Dunn, Ava Butt and Bryn Gunderson each had two hits.  Butt had a double.

Iola-Scandinavia used three pitchers to earn the win.  Lizzie Jones worked the first two innings.  Jones allowed six hits, two walks and no strikeouts.  Julia Munoz pitched three innings to earn the win.  Munoz allowed six hits, no walks and had no strikeouts.  Maddie Much pitched the final two innings.  Much allowed three hits, no walks and had two strikeouts.

Wautoma starting pitcher Bri Handel took the loss for the Hornets. Handel allowed one walk and had two strikeouts.  Jalyn Piechowski pitched the final 3 1/3 innings.  Piechowski allowed three walks and struck out three batters.
