Monticelli fans 17 Slinger batters

Cedarburg escaped a tough challenge from Slinger on Tuesday evening to maintain their two game lead in the North Shore Conference.

Neither team could capitalize on plenty of opportunities to score.  The defenses were up to the task and were able to help their pitchers wiggle out of jams.  Slinger grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the 5th when they were able to put together a walk and back to back singles by Lindsay Villarreal and Julia Moker.

Cedarburg was able to even the score in their half of the 6th when Sarah Prom walked and scored on a double by Paytn Monticelli to make it 2-1.  Courtesy runner Maddie Klumpyan entered the game for Monticelli and scored when Lucia Rosenberg delivered a single to tie the score at 2.

The scored held until the bottom of the 9th. Sammie Brobst led off the inning with a walk, and moved to third on a bunt single by Kassidy Goethel.  After Goethel was thrown out at second on an overthrow and a strikeout, Slinger intentionally walked Cedarburg’s leadoff hitter Cassidy Gall setting the stage for Lacke’s heroics.  Down 0-2, Lacke delivered a bloop single into left center for the walk-off single.  Monticelli went the distance for the Bulldogs striking out 17 while Slinger’s Kylie Strupp set down 10 Bulldogs via strikeout.
