Final Score was 7-2

The Poynette Pumas have been riding the strong arms of their pitching staff all season and today was no exception. On a day when the bats seemed as if they had been kept in a freezer overnight, sophomore pitcher Brooke Steinhorst was up to the task of holding off the Watertown Luther Prep offensvie attack.

Steinhorst would eventually throw a four-hitter at the Phoenix and strike out 10 with just one walk. The final was 7-2.

With Steinhorst controlling the game when the Pumas were on defense, Phoenix pitcher Emma Bortulin kept the Pumas' sticks cooled off through three innings before allowing her first hit when Holly Lowenberg led off the fourth with a single. She stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch then scored on another wild pitch.

Bortulin seemed to lose a bit of concentration in the fourth with the two wild pitches asshe walked Abby Klink and Allana Borgen but escaped further damage.

In the Poynette fifth after Maysa Clemens went down swinging, Ashia Meister coaxed yet another base on balls out of the Phoenix pitcher then stole second base and moved to third on a passed ball. When Lowenberg hit a ball that was booted by the shortstop the Pumas had a little something going as Meister scooted home. Lowenberg then stole second again then again moved to third on a ball back to the screen. It was then 2-0 as the game moved to the sixth inning.

Sophomore catcher Laken Wagner singledn then Klink and Borgen both walked. Peyton Kingsland went down on a pop up to the pitcher then Clemens hit into a fielder's choice that retired Wagner at the plate. Meister then laced the first pitch for an rbi single and Lowenberg followed with a rbi single. When Peyton Gest got her first hit of the night, a double Lowenberg scored. That made the score 7-0.

The Phoenix finally reached Steinhorst in the seventh for two runs on three hits with her only free pass issued in that sequence.

The win boosts the Pumas' record to 15-1 on the season and coupled with Lake Mills' win today sets up Thursday's game at Diamond of Champions when the two once beaten teams will meet to decide who owns first place in the Capitol North.
