Merrill takes two from Wausau East

Blue Jays Overcome early 5-0 deficit

Game 1  Merrill 8,Wausau East 7

The Lumberjacks took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning wrapping some solid hitting around an error on the defense. Claire Coushman made it a 3-0 game with a towering home run before the Bluejays recorded the first out.

Merrill got one back in the bottom of the first and 4 in the bottom of the 2nd to tie it up. Wausau East would regain a 2-run lead in the top of the 3rd which would hold up until the bottom of the 7th.

Hannah Losee lead off that final half inning for the Jays and would cut the deficit in half with a towering home run to LF. East pitcher Kit Kronberger would sandwich a couple of Ks around a double by Merrill's Kendall Krueger. With two outs and two strikes, Merrill sophomore Addison Schmeltzer would hit a line shot over the CF wall for the walk off home run.

Kendall Krueger was the winning pitcher for the Bluejays, providing 4 innings of scoreless relief.

Merrill would take down the Lumberjacks in game 2 by a score of 7-1. Addison Schmeltzer picked up the complete game victory, allowing just 4 hits and 1 BB while striking out 8.

Courtney Krueger lead the Bluejays with 2 hits and 2 runs while driving in 2. Nicole Zoellner drove in 3 with a double.
