West Bend West takes down West Bend East

West Bend West held off a furious rally by West Bend East and then pulled away for a 20-10 victory in 10 innings.

The Spartans took an 11-1 lead into the top of the fifth. East rallied for seven runs to pull within three.

The Spartans answered with a six-run bottom of the fifth.

East scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth. West ended it via the 10-run rule with three in the bottom of the frame.

East loaded the bases with one out in the first but Olivia Culp worked out of the jam.

West responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Maddie Koenings drove in two runs and Lindsay Sandleback, Culp and Lexi Buske drove in one each.

Ava Thelen drilled a line-drive three-run home run to fuel a five-run second inning for the Spartans. Culp had a run-scoring single in the frame.

Mia Buske tripled and scored on an RBI ground out by Makenna Gish  in the third to make it 11-0.

After the Suns' rally, singles by Lily Hahn and Jessie Reich and a walk by Mia Buske loaded the bases ahead of a three-run double by Gish. Thelen then launched her second homer of the game. Sandelback singled and scored to cap the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth for the Spartans, Buske led off with a double and Gish singled. Thelen followed with a two-run double. After two were out, Culp ended the game with an RBI single.

Kate Wiedmeyer had a 4-for-5 night for the Suns, including a three-run triple in the fifth.

Thelen had a monster night, going 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, four runs scored and seven runs batted in. Mia Buske was 4-for-4 with a double, triple and four runs scored at the top of the order. Gish was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and four driven in. Culp had three hits and Sandleback had two in the 21-hit attack by the Spartans.
