It was a huge day overall in the Capitol North

  • Senior pitcherTaylor Roughen allowed just four hits and zero runs as Lake Mills beat crosstown rival Lakeside Lutheran 8-0 in a key Capitol Conference North matchup.
  • Lake Mills opened up scoring in the first inning. Senior right fielder Ellie Evenson doubled and Roughen followed with a double scoring Evenson.
  • Lake Mills scored four runs in the second inning with the bats being led by McKenna Grossman and Roughen.  Roughen's big day continued at the plate by launching a 3-run homerun in the second inning to put Lake Mills up 5-0.
  • Roughen led the L-Cats in the circle as well. She allowed four hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking zero
  • Lake Mills totaled 15 hits in the game. Ava Kleinfelt, Roughen, Grossman, Avery Chilson, Syd Schwartz, and Ellie Evenson all had multiple hits for Lake Mills. The L-Cat defense was also solid and didn't commit a single error.
  • "Our bats really came alive tonight, We hit the ball hard and often to give Taylor offensive support," said head coach Jim Clift. "Taylor's pitching right now is simply dominant. She has total control over all of her pitches and is hitting her spots as well as I've ever seen her. This was a true team win. Lakeside is a very good, well-coached team with great discipline offensively and defensively. This was an important win for us."
  • The tight Capitol North continues Friday when Lake Mills travels to Columbus for a second matchup. Lake Mills won the first contest 2-0.
