Two Players highlighted in tonight's bulletin

It was a great day for fastpitch with some great games and great performances.

Hello Fastpitch Folks,

Tonight I am going to highlight some kids whose coaches have sent me news about their performances in the past week or so.

Emma Raye -- Superior sophomore catcher Emma Raye has had a huge four day run. At the Chippewa Falls Invite her and her "mates" won the event beating Onalaska, Chippewa Falls and SPASh. On the day she hit a home run in all three games. She went 4 for 4 in the SPASH  game,  3 for 4 vs Chippewa game and 2 for 5 (4 RBI) vs Onalaska. Overall she was 9x13 with 7 rbi. The Emma Raye had a big day Saturday.  A HR in all three games.  She went 4 for 4 in the SPASH  game,  3 for 4 vs Chippewa game and 2 for 5 (4 RBI) vs Onalaska. Grand total of 9 for 13 7 RBI'sn today against Duluth Denfeld she hit another home run. so she has homered in four straight games,. Until somebody show me proof I will call that a state home run record for her,

Ashley Zygowski -- On Monday, Port Washington's Ashley Zygowski played first base for the Pirates in their game against Nicolet. She went 3 for 4 at the plate with a single, triple, and homerun.

On Tuesday, Ashley pitched a complete game and earned the win against West Bend West. She threw a total of 14 strikeouts, allowing only two hits, and walking just one batter. Ashley was unstoppable with the first two batters in the Spartan's lineup and the number five hitter who she sat down every single time they were at the plate. Offensively, Ashley went 4 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored.

Port Washington suffered a tough loss from Cedarburg on Thursday, 5/6. The Pirates remained scoreless until Ashley hit a two-run homer in the top of the 6th inning to bring the score to 5-2. The Pirates lost 5-2. Ashley went 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring both 2 runs for the Pirates. Ashley had 2 out of the 5 total hits for Port. Ashley pitched the complete game. In her six innings, she struck out 14, including Cedarburg's leadoff hitter all 4 times at the plate. This follows Ashley's 14 strikeout game on Tuesday versus West Bend West.

My son moved to Salt Lake City in late April. He was our student coach during his sophomore, junior and seniors years of high school because he knew the game, played boy's fastpitch across the midwest adn like his dad pretty much grew up at the ball yards his dad played at learning the game.  After high school we played together on the Italian House Pizza mens' faspitch team in the Janesville Mens' Fastpitch League at Monterey Stadium. He has continued to follow the sport. After settling in out in Salt Lake he was able to watch UCLA play Utah. Today he sent me a pdf of the Utah State High School Fastpitch tournament. It's interesting a far cry from the Wisconsin tournament series. Here is the link to the bracket as they do it in Utah.

Eric was our outfield coach for his three years as student coach. He worked and worked to get those girls to dive for balls at practice. Finally it started to happen so he would give them a Dove Bar but pronounced it like dove as in she dove for that ball. That was a great way to get them to start giving their all for the good of the team.

Just one last comment -- fastpitch softball has always been a bunt and run game. Even with all the high powered bats the sacrifice game is key to winning close games when two top notch chucker toe the pitcher's plate. The team that gets some crucial station to station movement usually wins. That was the case in one Capitol Conference game today. the lack of givng oneself -- it's paramount.

Have a great day!Keep it Rising!

Bob
