This Bulletin was updated Saturday Morning.

Hello Fastpitch World,

It's the end of the week of week 1. The latest week one in the history of Wisconsin High School softball. Some teams are off to great starts and some pitchers are in mid-season form (check out the news articles a few coaches submit to promote their program and players.

We will be taking a shot at a statewide ranking in all five divisions of play by early in the week, perhaps even back to our Sunday night routine. If there are teams in your area that uou think deserve being ranked in the state's top 10 or 15 in each division just drop me and email or text message at faspich1@gmail,com or text to 608-219-two, two, seven, nine.

Gilman's Addy Warner twirled a no-hitter against Flambeau this afternoon. She struck out

Elkhorn's Christina Crawford pitched a no-hitter at Lake Geneva Badger with 16 strikeouts

Poynette's hitting attack today in DeForest saw sophomores Brooke Steinhorst and Holly Lowenberg each get two extra base hits. Steinorst had a double and triple while Lowenberg tripled and hit her second home run of the season.

Caroline Lewison,  a junior went 4x5 with a pair of doubles and three rbi as Baraboo beat Wisconsin Dells 15-4, Senior Kayla Gray homered and singled for Wisconsin Dells,

Senior pitcher Taylor Roughen struck out 27 in two days (14 vs Luther Prep and 13 vs Marshal) as the L-Cats won both games. They scored three runs in the top of the seventh to nip Marshall 3-1.

Blowout games seem to be the norm in the Big 8 this spring. The scores on Friday were 16-0 in four innings, 14-1 in five innings, 18-2 in five innings with 4-0 score tossed in as well as a 7-5 score.

Blowout games have been abundant across the state. That is nothing new though. Trying to control a high scoring game as the coach of the team with all the runs takes some work and is a cutting edge sword at the same time. The coach would like to get some of the substitutes in and yet they want to get the starters some innings as well. As a coach I always wanted to get my pitchers as many innings as I could in the years where we had more than one good chucker. When it came to holding down a score I never told a batter to strike out on purpose or bunt to get out (the defense might throw the ball away and ruin your plan). We'd have to tell the field ump to watch our lead runner as she would most likely leave early after having gotten the leave early sign. In a game on Tuesday I know of one team that left a base early that resulted in a 1-2-3 inning for losing team. It's tough to make three intentional outs for the other team. There is a fine, cutting edge line there of moving a game along or embarassing the team far behind. I usually asked the other coach if they wanted us to "move things along." I have interesting story that goes along with this topic as well.

Here are some early scores as of 9:00 PM posted on the wissports Softball Scores page of wissports.net website tonight.

The statewide Leader Board on Wissports.net will soon kick in if they haven't already. Coaches, players, parents and fans should take note that the leader boards are generated automatically from the statistics that coaches post on their team's individual page. If your team's stats are not on the wisports.net site the players can't make the leader boards.

There are a lot of games  Saturday and some are part of various multiple school events. Check the Schedule page on the wissports.net website to pick a place to go watch some fastpitch on a day that is supposed to be a great day for fastpitch.

Have a great weekend.
Keep it Rising!
Bob
