The official start, per the WIAA of the Wisconsin High School Softball season is slated for April 19th but softball coaches were granted up to 15 contact days prior to April 12th. Most programs have been taking adavantage of that carrot offered by the association due to the fact that the 2021 season is nearly three weeks shorter than most seasons.
The Fastpitch Chronicle has started composing a list of the top teams in the state in each division. Today we are listing a partial list of Division 5 teams in the state to keep your eyes on.
Our committee has listed Belmont as the state's top ranked team as teams head into April using those contact days as practices.
Here is a random list of other top contenders for a state title in 2021. Belmont is the Defending State Champion from their win in 2019. Only COVID-19 beat the Braves in 2020 as it also did to Oshkosh North. Seymour, Poynette and Horicon.
Belmont will be challenged by a couple of strong programs that have dropped into Division 5 from Division 4 in 2019. Most notable are Thorp and Stevens Point Pacelli
Note: Beginning this year The Fastpitch Chronicle will list all private schools first with the location (City, Village, Town) where the school is located.
