Claims outright Capitol North Title with win -- 26th Conference title for Poynette Fastpitch Softball

Junior Lucy Cuff went 2x3 while junior pitcher Casey Fountain recorded another shutout with a one-hit, no walk gem today in Poynette. She fanned 11 allowing just three balls to be hit out of the infield. The lone Columbus hit was by Bruss in the Columbus sixth, a blooper just out of reach of shortstop Peyton Kingsland behind second base. Columbus had one other baserunner in that inning after an error at first.

The Pumas scored one in the first after the first two batters went down. Cuff singled up the middle. Junior rightfielder Molly Anderson then drew a base on balls pushing Cuff to second. When Ashley Hellenbrand, Poynette's lone senior this season got a roller up the middle and into centerfield Cuff scampered home with the lead run, a lead Fountain refused to relinquish.

The Pumas added another single run in the third inning when Fountain doubled to open the inning. Cuff moved her to second on a sacrifice funt and when Anderson lined one up the middle Fountain sprinted home.

In the fourth inning the Pumas plated a pair of runs when junior first sacker Lizzie Schwenn doubled to the warning track in leftcenter. Brianna Kowald's ensuing bunt was perfectly placed and moved Schwenn to third where she scored on a bunt by Fountain. Kowald later scored on an infield ball hit to second base.

The fifth and final run came off a towering home run by centerfielder Mollie Blochwitz in the fifth inning.

Poynette moves to 23-0 with the win.
