Westosha Central Weekly Update

On Monday May 6th
 

Westosha Central used a solid pitching performance by Olivia Kazumura and timely hitting by Becca Edwards to defeat Wilmot 2-1.  Kazumura went the distance, striking out 5, walking two and allowing only one hit.  Edwards went had two hits, including a solo home run to lead the offense.  The Falcons struck first in the 2nd inning.  With two out Carlie Odejewski walked.  Edwards hit a medium line drive for a single and Odejewski reached third on the hit.  An errant throw got away and Odejewski scampered home with the run.  In the fifth Edwards extended the lead on a solo shot to centerfield.  The Panthers responded in their half of the frame.  Anna Wischnowski led off with a walk.  She moved to 2nd base on a ground out and scored when Riley Alexander doubled to rightfield.  But Kazumura got Sami Christiansen flied out to end the threat.  Outside of a walk, Kazumura limited the Wilmot opportunities.  "Olivia was great today.  She moved the ball in the zone and adjusted throughout the game very well.  We also took advantage of the opportunities given to us.  It was a good team win."  (co-head coach Tom Lampe)  With the win the Falcons improved to 9-8 overall and 7-4 in the SLC.  They return to action tomorrow when they travel to Burlington for a SLC match up.  

Tuesday Game
 

Westosha Central rode another solid performance by Olivia Kazumura to defeat Burlington 4-2.  Kazumura allowed only 2 hits and one earned run.  She struck out 11 while walking five.  "Olivia did a great job again tonight.  She did a great job of getting ahead of the hitters and adjusting to what was being called.  She had two solid nights in a row."  (co-head coach Tom Lampe)  Like the night before, the Falcons jumped to an early lead.  Becca Edwards led off with a single and reached second when Kazumura was hit by a pitch.  A double by Jill Adams scored Edwards and the Falcons got the lead they would never relinquish.  The score remained 1-0 until the 4th.  Abbey Jones led off with a single and scored on a two-run homer to right by Ellie Christeson.  The Falcons tacked on another run in the frame when, with two out, Edwards singled, reached second on an error and scored on a Kazumura single.  The Demons responded with a run in their half of the inning.  Two Falcon errors put runners on 1st and 3rd.  A ground out to Edwards scored the run but no other damage was done.  The Demons scored their final run on a home run by Morgan Klein with two out in the 7th.  But Kazumura enticed a ground out and the game was over.  "We did a great job of communicating and overcoming any difficult situations.  We also took advantage of the opportunities given to us."  (co-head coach Tom Lampe)  With the win the Falcons improve to 10-8 overall and 8-4 in the SLC.  They return to action on Thursday when the host Delavan at 4:30.
