Poynette Pitching Staff carries Pumas to four wins at Poynette Jamboree

Fountain, Anderson, Hellenbrand, Meister pace Pumas

Some stellar pitching from juniors Casey Fountain, senior Ashley Hellenbrand and freshman Ashia Meister, the Poynette Pumas' softball team went 4-0 on the weekend.

After a Friday win over Somers Shoreland Lutheran, the Pumas tipped Brookwood, Prairie du Chine and Adams-Friendship on Saturday to move to 20-0 on he season.

Anderson pitches the first four innings of the 9:00 am round of games, that one against Brookwood. She allowed two hits, walked none and fanned 8. Meister tossed he fifth inning facing just four batters, walking one.

On offense the Pumas were led by junior outfielder Morgan Jones who went 4x4 with a pair of rbi. Another junior Mara Millard went 2x4 with a double. Those two were the only Poynette batters with two more hits. 

In game two the Pumas saw Prairie du Chien take a 2-0 in the top of the third. Senior Ashley Hellenbrand worked the first three innings for the Pumas 3 hits, all in the fourth that led to a pair of markers for Prairie du Chien. She struck out five. Fountain entered during the fourth inning and allowed one hit and fanned 8. Fountain and Jones were both 2x4 as Jones laced a double and a triple. Ashley Hellenbrand was also 2x4 while junior second sacker Brianna Kowald was 2x3. Junior Lizzie Schwenn doubled for he Pumas.

Game three was against Adams-Friendship and Fountain twirled the first three innings and she was perfect. She allowed no baserunners before yielding the circle to Hellenbrand. Fountain struck out 8 in three innings. Hellenbrand finished off the game for Poynette allowing one hit and striking out 5.

"In Saturday's second game we were all a little off," said Poynette Head Coach Bob Tomlinson. "After things snapped heading to the bottom of the fourth things go rolling for us," 

The Pumas scored 5 fourth inning markers after falling behind. 

The Pumas host Watertown Luther Prep on Tuesday in a twinbill.
