Shoreland Lutheran beats Catholic Central in Metro Classic Action

Shoreland Lutheran bounced back in the rematch Wednesday night in Somers to win game 2 in as many nights with Catholic Central 10-3. Both teams matched with 2 run first frames. BCC got rbi hits from Izzy Phillips and Katie Goethal to plate the Hilltoppers 2.  Emily Jones and Haylee Dodd both reached base on singles.  A groundout by Kelsey Hill plated Jones and Dodd stole 3rd and later scored on  throwing error to even things at 2-2.  Allie Neumann reached on a one out walk, stole second and then scored on an infield hit by Haylee Dodd to make the score 3-2 after 2 innings.  The Pacer struck again in the 5th. With 1 out Dodd reached on a base hit and Hill reached on an error.  After both runners stole 2 and 3 respectively, Bree James delivered a 20ut, 2rbi single to right field to push the Pacer lead to 5-2.  Shoreland then broke open the door in the 6th. Olivia Mooney led off with a double off the left field fence.  Following a strikeout, the next 2 batters reached by error pushing accross Mooney.  Dodd added an rbi single and Hill drove in 2 more with a single. On the play Hill drew a throw advancing to 2nd that sailed to the fence allowing her to score as well to bring the Pacer lead to 10-2.  Laine Dirksmyer would triple and later score on Phillips double to put the final at 10-3.

SL leaders were Dodd 4-4, 3 runs, 1 rbi, 4 SB, 2B, Hill 1-4, 2 runs, 3 rbi and Bree James 1-4 and 2 rbi.  Phillips and Erin Schwenn each collected 2 hits to lead BCC.  Hill got the win going 7 innings, 8 hits, 2 ER, 2BB plus 2 IBB, 7 strikeouts. Paleka took the loss for BCC who committed 5 errors on the night.

Shoreland Lutheran is now 8-2 and 6-1 in MCC play while BCC is 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the MCC.

"Our girls showed me how strong they can be mentally after a tough loss last night. Really pleased to see them bounce back and still be aggressive tonight. Our defense really stepped it up as well. "

Shoreland plays Racine Lutheran tomorrow night and BCC plays Martin Luther.
