Final was 4-3 in Eight innings

Westosha Central dropped a heartbreaker when host Elkhorn rallied twice to defeat the Falcons 4-3 in 8 innings. Olivia Kazumura took the complete game loss, allowing all four runs (all earned) while striking out 11. “Olivia pitched great. We just had one really bad stretch at the end of the game.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons opened the scoring in the 5th. Megan Witt led off the inning reaching on an error. She scored on a fielder's choice bunt by Carlie Odejewski. That lead held until the bottom of the 7th. Schliep led off with a single and was moved to 2B on a sacrifice. With two outs Calvillo lined a two strike pitch to left scoring the run. The Falcons avoided a loss one batter later when Carlie Odejewski threw out the winning run at the plate. The Falcons regained the lead in the 8th, scoring two runs. Ellie Witt led off with a single and Kenna Beth sacrificed her to 2B. One batter later, Olivia Nahorniak reached on an error to score Witt. She later scored on a double by Odejewski. But the lead was short-lived. With one out a walk, single and walk loaded the bases. Schliep was hit by a pitch to score one run. One batter later, Laine Rudolf was hit with a pitch tying the game. The Falcons had a chance to get out of the inning. With two outs, Calvillo struck out but the ball eluded Jill Adams and Rocha came home with the winning run. “Give them credit. They hung in there and took advantage of their opportunities. We let too many opportunities slip away. Sometimes that just happens. We will get back at it tomorrow and move forward.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) With the loss the Falcons drop to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the SLC. They return to action this Thursday when they host Lake Geneva Badger.
