Poynette wins two

Poynette beat Spencer in a doubleheader on Saturday. The final scores were 15-3 and 12-2. In game one junior Casey Fountain who tossed the first three innings in the five-inning contest. She allowed no runs on one hit, walked one and fanned eight. Freshman Ashia Meister worked the final two innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walked none and struck out three. Leading hitters for Poynette were: Casey Fountain (3x3,double), Lucy Cuff (2x2, double), Ashley Hellenbrand (2x3), Peyton Kingsland (2x2, double), Brianna Schulz (grand slam). The losing pitcher was Tiffany Meinders with help from Semenchuk. Spencer's first safe hit of the season was collected by Anne Visser who is from the Netherlands and had never played softball before arriving in Wisconsin. A tennis player regularly her eye hand coordination allowed her to nip Fountain for the first hit of the game. Danika Griepentrog came up with the defensive gem of the day when in the third inning she caught a liner outside the foul line and on the warning track then crashed headlong into the out of play fence. It was a great catch! In the Spencer fourth the Rockets reached freshman pitcher Ashia Meister for three runs on three hits and a walk. The singles were recorded by C. Drews, S. Nietzel and C. Widmann while C. Robinson drew the base on balls in there. Aryiah Schuh doubled of Meister in the fifth. 

The winning pitcher in game 2 was junior Molly Anderson who three hits, allowed one unearned run, walked one and fanned 10. The leading hitters for the Pumas were: Brianna Kowald (2x2), Ashley Hellenbrand  (2x3), Mara Millard (2x4, double), Brianna Schulz (1x2, home run), Lucy Cuff (home run), Zoe Ramberg (double), and Morgan Jones (double). Meinders took the loss for Spencer. The Rockets got hits from Schuh, Widmann and E. Post. 

The Pumas upped their record to 3-0. It was the first time this season that Spencer had been able to do anything outside of their gymnasium. The Rockets improved greatly from game one to game two.
