Baraboo wins two on Saturday

Thunderbirds beat Marathon 11-8 and Athens 7-6

Baraboo picked up a pair of wins on Saturday when they hosted Athens and Marathon. In game one the Thunderbirds nipped Marathon 11-8 in a game that featured 21 hits, five doubles and ten runners left aboard by Marathon. Baraboo plated a single marker in the bottom of the first, added five in the bottom of second after Marathon had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of that inning. In the third Marathon snared three more to pull to within one then added two more in the fourth. Baraboo garnered one run in the bottom of the fourth but Marathon bolted into the lead and when they added a solo marker in the fifth led 8-7. A four-run sixth sewed things up for Baraboo. The T-birds were guilty of five errors and forced Crary to face 39 batters. She allowed 10 hits, four earned runs, fanned four and walked three. Paige Lewison went 2x3 with a double, C.Hammer was 2x4, M. Henry was 2x4 and H. Hannegan was 2x3. J. Parche,Hannegan and C. Hammeister also doubled in the game for the winners. Marathon collected 10 hits including a double by the pitcher. Last names for Marathon did not appear on the Game Changer sheet we received so we know that second sacker Bailey had two hits, first sacker Hannah was 3x5 and Molly, the pitcher doubled.   

Game Two Baraboo 7, Athens 6
Caroline Lewison gets walk-off single

The final score in the Athens game was Baraboo 7, Athens 6. The Thunderbirds were down 6-4 going to the bottom of the seventh but rallied for a three runs including the game winner on an infield single off the bat of freshman Caroline Lewison. Athens had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the third and added a second run in the fourth before the T-Birds countered in the bottom of the 4th with a pair to knot the score. Baraboo grabbed a two-run lead with a two in the fifth before the Blue Jays scored four in the top of the sixth. That set up the seventh inning and the win. The winning pitcher was Emma Crary as the sophomore pitcher tossed the final inning and held the Blue Jays off. Caroline Lewison and fellow freshman and cousin Paige Lewison combined over the first six innings with Caroline tossing four innings and Paige two innings. The three pitches combined to strike out four Blue Jays while walking half a dozen. The loser was Wolf who allowed 7 runs, 6 earned, fanned four and walked 4. Leading hitters of Athens were Ellenbecker with a 2x4 game and Stowe who went 2x3. Lipinski had a pair of RBI for the Blue Jays who left 10 runner aboard. The Thunderbirds were led by Paige Lewison who went 2x4, M. Henry was 2x2 while Caroline Lewison was 1x4 with an RBI. Zimmerman doubled for Baraboo.
