Arrowhead head coach Emily Martin is one of a handful of coaches in the state that has both played in a state tournament and coached in at least one. For Martin, she starred at second base for Richland Center and was the state Division 2 Runner-up Hornet team in 1996. At Arrowhead, now here 18th season she will lead her club into action in the nine-team Classic 8 Conference title chase. She has led the school to seven conference titles along with three sectional titles, three state tournament appearances and to a pair of Final Four spots, losing both times in the state semi-final. The current season finds her welcoming back first team and all-district outfielder Grace Salaja who batted .463 last season to lead the club. “We have good depth at all the positions and a core of young players who have had success at lower levels,” said the coach. “We graduated a talented group of seniors last spring so we are dealing with a bit of inexperience at the varsity level.” She views Waukesha North as the Classic 8 favorite due primarily to the return of a dominating pitcher in the circle in Maddy Anderson. At the sectional level she sees North and Greenfield as the biggest foes.
