Mattie Bredeson twirls no-hitter, Pumas collect 14 hits

Watertown - The Poynette Pumas entered today's game at Luther Prep knowing that win would assure them of no less than a share of the Capitol North Division title. A win would be the 24th conference title in program history.

Prep pitcher Maddie Lindamann appeared to be about to get through the first inning unscathed but a line single by Haley Radewan gave the Pumas a fresh breath. When the throw from the outfield into the infield was errored Radewan wound at second base. Brooke Dredske followed with a one-hop liner toward short that made it through Ally Gobal's legs and into leftcenter, scoring Radewan.

That run would ultimately be all Pumas' pitcher Mattie Bredson would need as she twirled a no-hit gem on just 76 pitchers, struck out seven walked none and hit one. The only other Phoenix batter to reach base was Gobal on a close play at first where the throw drew Dredske off the bag on a the errant throw.

Poynette scored four more in the third on a one-out walk to Sidnwey Gorman, a single by Maegan Brookins, a walk to Rachel Renz before Radewan hit a high, towering blast to short left field that the wind did crazy things with. The leftfielder had to sudden sprint in when a gust stopped the ball in mid-air. She dropped the ball when it came down allowing Gorman to score. Brookins and Renz both scored on pitches back to the screen before Radewan scored on an rbi single off the bat of Ashley Hellenbrand.

In the Poynette fourth Allison Tomlinson lined a single up the middle and Bredeson followed suit. After Brookins popped up to second Renz hit an infield single and Radewan followed with a blast to deep center against that strong wind. The ball was knocked down short of the fence but the Pumas had struck again and when Dredske lined a shot up the middle Radewan scored. All in all Poynette plated four more runs in the inning making the score 9-0.

The final three runs came in the top of the seventh when Mya Knuteson reached on an error at second, pinch hitter Casey Fountain tripled to rightcenter scoring Knuteson and Bredeson got a "seeing-eye" double down the rightfield line scoring Fountain. She scored when Renz singled her home.

Renz went 2x4, Radewan was 2x2, Bredeson was 2x3 while Hellenbrand was also 2x3.
