Pumas score 10 in the fourth fifth and sixth en route to 10-2 win

Mattie Bredeson scattered three hits, allowed two unearned runs, walked one and struck out 14 as the Pumas recorded their 14th victory of the season against no defeats.

Luther Prep broke out in front in the top of the fourth when with one out Maddy Lindemann reached first base on an error on second sacker Maegan Brookins. Bailey Zieman then lined a single to right that got past rightfielder Rachel Renz all the way to the fence sending Lindemann home with the go-ahead run. Ziemen wound up at third and scored on a wild pitch that Bredeson uncorked.

The Pumas got things together in the bottom half of the fourth when Ashley Hellenbrand singled, Bredeson drew a one-out base on balls and catcher Mya Knuteson lined a one-run single to up the middle. After a pop uo out to third Sidney Gorman, batting in the nine spot lined a single to left that scored Knuteson for the run that knotted things up. It was an answer back inning for the Pumas

Bredeson went back to work in the top of the fifth with a one-two-three inning. In the Pumas' fifth Rachel Renz worked losing pitcher Maddy Lindemann for a base on balls and when Haley Radewan did the same the Pumas had a rally going. Hellenbrand dropped down a bunt between the first sacker and pitcher. Picked up by the first sacker, she looked to third, and could not make a play on anyone. Hellenbrand was credited with a sacrifice bunt and fielder's choice and the bricks were full. Heather Kimberley worked an eight-pitch at bat but popped up behind home plate to the catcher Zieman for the first out. Bredeson then stepped in and on a 1-2 count lined a shot to the gap in rightcenter scoring everyone as she cruised into third. She then scored on an rib single to center by Mya Knuteson.

Bredeson again recorded a shutdown inning in the sixth when she again mowed the Phoenix down 1-2-3. In the Pumas' half of the sixth it was more of the same when Maegan Brookins doubled to lead off the inning. Haley Radean singled down the line at third driving in Brookins and scooting into second. Hellenbrand then launched a Lindemann offering over the scoreboard in leftcenter for a two-run homer. Kimberley then single up the middle, moved to second when Knuteson was nicked by a pitch and went to third when Makayla Sorge worked Lindemann for another walk. When Gorman drew the third base on balls in the inning, Kimberley trotted home with the inning's fourth run.

Bredeson was 2x2 with two triples, Brookins was 2x5, Hellenbrand was 2x3 and Knueson was 2x3.

Poynette still has a big week coming up as they host New Glarus on Thursday, travel to Waterloo on Friday and play Merrill and LaCrosse Logan in Portage on Saturday.
