49-Team event went off like clockwork,

The 2016 Poynette Summer Fastpitch Jamboree was a huge success over the weekend. Forty-nine teams took part in the three-day event that featured 101 games on five fields and 21 umpires working games.

All five fields were dragged, raked, chalked after the completion of every game played. In addition to that the fields at the high school were watered with the Poynette Fastpitch Organization's custom-built watering wagon throughout the days of the event to keep dust from playing in the breeze while being dragged and during games. It also keeps the on-field temperatures a bit under control.

In the 16-U category the Poynette team known as the Rage beat the Shockers from the Waupun area 4-3 in the championship game. Poynette entered the game as the unbeaten team in the three-game guaranteed, double-elimination event. Poynette took a 3-1 lead only to see the Shockers not thing sup with a towering home run in the leftfield power alley. Poynette managed a run in the top of the sixth and pitcher Paige Doherty made the one run hold up. The Shockers played their way back through the loser's bracket on Sunday and were playing their fourth game of the day.

In the 14-U division the Plover Nationals made their way through the winner's bracket and took on the team from Poynette known as Crush. The two teams had met on Saturday which saw the Nationals record a come-from behind win in International tiebreaker innings 5-4. The Crush worked its way back through the loser's bracket with wins on Saturday, then on Sunday against the Portage Pride in 9 innings before winning two more to get to the championship level.

In the 10-U division the team from Poynette known as the Velocity scored a come-from-behind win over the Lakeshore Rise as Maggie Steinhorst scored the eventual game-winner in the last inning.

The 14-U Division's final day took place at Pauquette Park in Poynette. More on that division as we get the brackets updated.
