Falcons to face Union Grove on Thursday in Lake Geneva

Westosha Central advanced to the sectional final with a 3-0 victory over Wilmot in soggy Paddock Lake. Alyssa Hrncar earned her 61 career win by striking out 11 Panthers and allowing only 2 hits. "Considering the weather, Alyssa pitched a great game today. I don't think they got a runner beyond 2nd base and when they did she went into another gear. She's in a good place right now." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons got the only run they would need in the 1st inning. Hrncar led off with a walk off losing pitcher Sarah Hutchinson. One out later Kayla Konwent was walked. Kira Mickelson then hit a deep fly ball to right which advanced the runners but when the ball got away from 2nd baseman Shauna Lass, Hrncar scampered home with the run. The Falcons threatened again in the 4th inning when Carrie Weis' single was misplayed and she wound up at third base. Julia Jester then tried a squeeze play but Weis was thrown out at the plate when Hutchinson relayed the throw to Alyssa Horn. Westosha finally broke through in the 5th. Jenna Kontaxis and Alyssa Hrncar both singled. Chyanne Onstad hit a hard shot to shortstop but Kalyssa Koehn was able to force Hrncar at second. After Konwent's 3rd walk of the game, Mickelson singled in Kontaxis. With two out Onstad scored on a bases loaded walk of Olivia Klean. That was more than enough for Hrncar. The Junior allowed a base runner both innings but shut down the teeth of the Panther line up, three on strike outs. The victory put Hrncar at the top of career wins for Westosha Central. The record was held by Melanie Neiderer. With the win the Falcons improved to 24-4 on the season and will face Union Grove in the sectional final on Thursday in Lake Geneva.
