Westosha Central opened the WIAA tournament series with an 11-0 victory over Fort Atkinson to win their regional. The Falcons used 9 hits to put away the Blackhawks. Kira Mickelson (2 hits and 3 RBIs) and Jenna Kontaxis (2 hits and 4 RBIs) led the Falcon attack. Westosha opened the scoring with a 3-run second inning. After one out, Elaine Andersen and Julia Jester hit back to back doubles. Kontaxis' first hit plated Jester and an Alyssa Hrncar triple scored Kontaxis. "Once we got those early runs we just settled in." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons added 8 more in the 3rd inning with the big blow being a bases loaded triple by Mickelson. "Kira has been swinging the bat very well lately. If her bat remains hot it could really set up our offense." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) That was more than Alyssa Hrncar would need to earn her 17th victory of the season. She allowed only 3 hits, no runs while striking out 7. "It was a typical game for Alyssa. She moved the ball well, hit her spots and kept them guessing." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) With the win the Falcons improved to 23-4 on the season. They will host the sectional semifinal against either Janesville Craig or Wilmot next Tuesday in Paddock Lake.
